ESPN has updated its Football Power Index in anticipation of the upcoming season. One of the categories in FPI is a team’s percentage of going undefeated in the regular season. There are not many teams that accomplish this feat every year, and the percentages reflect that reality.Only three teams (Clemson, Alabama and Oklahoma) have a greater than 10 percent chance of going 12-0, according to the FPI. Only 12 teams have a one percent of greater shot.Eight teams check in at two percent or more. These are the eight teams ESPN thinks has the best chance of going undefeated this fall: Clemson – 48.9 percentAlabama – 14.2 percentOklahoma – 10.2 percentMichigan – 8.2 percentNotre Dame – 2.6 percentGeorgia – 2.5 percentUCF – 2.4 percentOregon – 2.4 percentClemson and Alabama being Nos. 1 and 2 shouldn’t surprise anyone. Michigan at No. 4 is interesting, considering the Wolverines have a very challenging schedule once again. The same could also be said for Notre Dame and Georgia. In fact, the Fighting Irish have to play the Bulldogs and Michigan during the regular season. You can view ESPN’s full FPI ratings here.
