The showcase will be held June 22-24 at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Grounds in Bible Hill and is for Atlantic 4-H beef and dairy members aged 13 to 21. Participants are expected to bring knowledge and skills they gain back to their 4-H clubs. “At this workshop, 4-H members learn the technical skills needed for good livestock management,” said Agriculture Minister John MacDonell. “Their training will ensure that they are able to continue Nova Scotia’s excellent reputation of producing high quality livestock well into the future.” Experts from EastGen (previously known as Eastern Breeders Showcase) and 4-H leadership co-ordinators with the Department of Agriculture will teach the latest techniques in show preparation for beef and dairy cattle, calf health, livestock judging, showmanship, clipping, display design, and herd management. There will be a special presentation about energy efficiency on the farm. After two intense days of training, 4-H members will show their calves at the beef and dairy show at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 24. Awards will be presented to the champion showmen and calves, and to members who excelled in session work during the two days of instruction. The public is invited to attend the show.last_img read more
