The free community block party will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Ector County Coliseum Barn G. There will be entertainment, jumpers, music and food. Odessa’s Public Information Coordinator Andrea Goodson said the city is holding the event after Code Enforcement recently finished up a sweep that allowed residents in a specific area to throw away large bulky items for one week. “It’s an effort to help keep our community clean and let our citizens know about some of the codes that are out there,” Goodson said. Goodson said every quarter in the calendar year, an area of the city will be allowed for one week to dispose of bulky items — couches, beds, TVs or refrigerators. She knows there are people in the community that can’t make it to the bulk item drop off center located at 814 42nd St. She said she hopes this block party can show attendees the effects of illegal dumping can have on a community. “Our goal in the city is to empower our citizens to do the right thing with voluntary compliance to keep the city beautiful and clean,” she said. “Illegal dumping is a huge issue in the city. Not only is it ugly, but it creates a health and sanitation issues. We want our citizens to dispose of things properly.” Facebook Previous article011819_BYNUM_NEW_BUILDING_14Next articleECTOR COUNTY RESTAURANT REPORT: Dec. 20 through Jan. 3 Digital AIM Web Support WhatsApp WhatsApp TAGS  last_img read more

Finishing Premier League season will be good for football – Mourinho

first_imgRelatedPosts Italy introduces compulsory virus testing for travellers from France Nigeria records new COVID-19 infections, more deaths as figures rise to 57,242 Ighalo: My best moment as ‘Red Devil’ Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho believes resuming the Premier League season, halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and playing it to completion will be good for the sport.Soccer in England was suspended indefinitely last month due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, which has caused more than 26,000 deaths in the United Kingdom. Premier League clubs are set to meet on Friday to discuss ways to finish the season.Spurs’ first-team squad returned to the club’s facilities for individual training sessions this week as they prepare for a possible resumption.“If we play the remaining nine matches this season it will be good for every one of us. It will be good for football, for the Premier League,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.“If we play football behind closed doors (without fans) I’d like to think that football is never behind closed doors.“With cameras, it means that millions and millions are watching. So if one day we walk into this empty stadium, it will not be empty, not at all.” The suspension has given Spurs’ injured players such as Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko and Steven Bergwijn time to recover but Mourinho said he was unsure of how long it would be before they were able to play competitive football again.“For them, it’s many, many weeks of injury. And when the injury was arriving at an end, we stopped training,” Mourinho said.“I don’t know, they don’t know, we have to wait for the right permission for them to train again in groups to see if they can come back to a normal competition level.”Spurs were eighth in the Premier League standings with 41 points, seven points adrift of fourth, before the season was suspended.Reuters/NAN. Young Planet Around Young Star Claimed

first_imgA star estimated to be one million years old already has a planet in orbit around it, the Spitzer Space Telescope (Hubble’s counterpart for infrared astronomy) has found.  Astrobiology Magazine says this challenges old theories.  Alan Boss (Carnegie Institute) thinks this supports his disk-instability model for planetary formation, in which gas giants can form quickly, in just hundreds or thousands of years (see 05/07/2001 headline).  If so, “that has profound implications for the prevalence of planetary systems similar to our own,” he says.  “That means you can make gas giant planets – a major component of our own solar system – in a short time scale, in even the shortest-lived disc.”    Spitzer also found organic material in the disks of some stars, reports Jet Propulsion Laboratory.  The “raw ingredients for life” appears to be in icy bodies that might be comets.  If so, “Scientists believe these comets may have endowed Earth with some of its water and many of its biogenic, life-enabling materials.”It also means our solar system doesn’t have to be as old as claimed even under naturalistic presuppositions.  Funny that you can have young-earth theories for other stars, but not our own.    “Raw ingredients for life” again; sure.  Iron ore and gypsum are raw ingredients for buildings.  Once upon a time, these ingredients organized themselves into cities and factories and concert halls.(Visited 8 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

World Cup 2019: India won’t be overconfident because of 6-0 record vs Pakistan, says Sachin Tendulkar

first_imgBatting great Sachin Tendulkar has said India will certainly not be complacent when they take on Pakistan in the blockbuster ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 match on Sunday in Manchester.India haven’t lost to Pakistan in a World Cup encounter, winning all their 6 meetings so far in the quadrennial showpiece event. However, India were outclassed by 180 runs in the final of Champions Trophy 2017, which was also the last time the two Asian rivals met at an ICC event.”That’s a positive comeback [Champions Trophy win in 2017]. After having been 6-0 down, the last one that they [Pakistan] had won. Indian team wouldn’t be overconfident. We are confident but we won’t be overconfident. I can fully understand that Ravi [Shastri], Virat [Kohli] and all the senior players would be emphasizing that we got to be on our toes, go out and play what we are good at,” Sachin Tendulkar said.Tendulkar also pointed out that India are certainly 100% better at the moment due to the consistent success in the recent past in ODI cricket.India have been dominant against Pakistan since the 2015 World Cup, winning 3 of their 4 meetings in ODI cricket. India had comfortably thrashed Pakistan in both their Asia Cup 2018 meetings.”I think when you are winning you are thinking different, but we, as a team, always think that we can’t be overconfident. Pack those confident things in the kitbag and travel with it. The team which is winning invariably the thought process is different and you believe you can pull through difficult situations,” Tendulkar added.advertisementAgainst Australia, Pak lost wickets at critical moments. They are a decent side and were in the game till the end,” he added.”At this stage 100% India are the better side. The way we have been performing for a number of months now we have been right at the top and carrying the momentum all the way.”Also Read | India vs Pakistan, World Cup 2019: Shoaib Akhtar cracks rain joke ahead of Sunday blockbusterAlso Read | World Cup 2019: Why India are outright favourites against PakistanAlso Read | World Cup 2019: Indian team will beat Pakistan 7 out of 10 times, says Kapil DevAlso See:last_img read more
