This morning, the Reader’s Digest Association and parent company RDA Holding Co. announced that Paul R. Tomkins is set to succeed Tom Williams as executive vice president and chief financial officer with the company. Tomkins is also slated to join RDA’s management executive committee. Tomkins will start his new position on May 23, joining RDA from the non-publishing sector where he was vice president controller of AT&T’s Business Solutions.Former CFO Williams became RDA president and CEO when Mary Berner parted ways with the company in late April. After Berner’s departure, Randall Curran, CEO of telecommunications company DELTACOM, Inc., filled her position as chairman of the RDA board. This announcement trails shortly after RDA announced its first quarter financials. Overall revenue in the first quarter of 2011 was $326 million, falling from $413.9 million in the first quarter of 2010 (during which RDA emerged from bankruptcy on February 20). From February 20 to March 31, 2010, RDA’s revenue totaled $156.2 million. RDA cites fewer magazine/book renewals, unprofitable product lines and less magazine issues for the revenue loss and for the EBITDA in the first quarter of 2011, which was at negative $25.2 million. In the first quarter of 2010, EBITDA was up at $9.5 million.
Maruti Suzuki’s next offering in the sedan segment, Ciaz, is not expected until September but the spy photos of the car has been doing the rounds on the web for quite sometime. Now the latest in the line is an image posted by the MotorBeam team, which shows Ciaz being tested outside Maruti’s Gurgaon plant. The car is seen heavily camouflaged, thus not revealing much details on its design.Ciaz, the new entry into the C-segment, was first seen at the Delhi Auto Expo 214 and is likely to make its India debut in September. The car, codenamed YL1, is expected to replace the underperforming SX4 sedan in the country and resembles the Suzuki Authentics concept car, which was shown at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show.Ciaz is likely to pack the same 1.3 liter Multijet diesel or 1.4 liter K Series petrol engine of Ertiga. Under the hood, it is expected to carry some of the features of both SX4 and Ertiga. Other speculated features of the car include 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push button start, puddle lamps and leather seats. The car is also expected to host a number of safety features like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Rumours are also rife that the Maruti’s new sedan will get the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology, which was introduced with the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio. Ciaz will take on the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Volkswagen Vento.Maruti is also rumoured to launch the AMT version of Alto K10. Alto K10, a successful small offering of Marurti, has seen a dip in its sales in recent years. The introduction of the AMT variant of Alto K10 is expected to salvage its losing charm in the sub-continent market.(Edited by Vishnuprasad S Pillai)
Kapil Sharma and Navjot Singh SidhuTwitterNavjot Singh Sidhu, on Sunday, tweeted a hand-written letter which said, “I hereby resign as Minister from the Punjab Cabinet.” He also tweeted that he will be sending his resignation to the Chief Minister of Punjab. And within no time, his fans started congratulating him for his ‘comeback’ on The Kapil Sharma Show.Sidhu was asked to leave the comedy show after facing massive outrage on social media over his comment on the Pulwama attack. Earlier, Kapil Sharma had opened up about Sidhu’s return to The Kapil Sharma Show saying after the elections, Sidhu’s return is inevitable.Sidhu was one of the most essential part of The Kapil Sharma Show and his chemistry with Kapil Sharma and spontaneous banter with celebrity guests were not just entertaining for the viewers but highly engaging as well. After Sidhu’s sudden ouster, Archana Puran Singh had replaced him on the show but many people felt that she was miserably failing as the co-host. Many were of the opinion that Archana had nothing new to offer to the viewers apart from her uncontrollable laughter on the show. From Sidhu’s shero-shayari to his genuine laughter to his bonding with Kapil Sharma to his anecdotes, Archana has not been able to match up to the precedent set by Sidhu as the co-host on The Kapil Sharma Show. In fact, there hasn’t been a single episode where Kapil had missed pulling Archana’s leg over Sidhu’s return on the show. And while Archana has always maintained that she will never leave her seat even for Sidhu, it remains to be seen if the makers of the show would consider bringing Sidhu back on the show as the co-host.Hope you will come to #KapilSharmashow or cricket commentary again..In Modi period its too hard to live as a opposition.#Sidhu #NavjotSinghSidhu pic.twitter.com/rVlq9m8UtL— Soumya Swarup Das (@imbobby07) July 14, 2019Congratulations sir.
