KUSI Newsroom MiraCosta College waives tuition for all first-time, full-time students KUSI Newsroom, OCEANSIDE (KUSI) – MiraCosta College announced Monday that tuition will be fully waived for first-time full-time students as part of the MiraCosta Promise program.The promise program is funded by private donations to the MiraCosta College Foundation and a variety of state and local entities. Along with the waiving of tuition, students who graduated from a high school within the community college’s district — MiraCosta serves coastal North San Diego County through its main campus in Oceanside, at 1 Barnard Drive, and San Elijo campus in Cardiff-by-the-Sea –can receive up to $1,000 for textbooks and other supplies if eligible.“Promise aims to remove a significant hurdle for college-bound students; tuition, mandatory fees and textbook costs for eligible full-time students,” said MiraCosta Superintendent and President Sunita Cooke. “Promise is boosting transfer and certificate attainment rates, improving academic performance and expanding higher education access to underserved populations.”MiraCosta waived tuition for nearly 500 students for the 2017-18 school year, the first year of the Promise program, according to the college. Map of RajshahiThree factory workers, who among 10 others fell sick after ‘having poisonous chemical’ on Wednesday night at Dyeingpara village in Godagari upazila, died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) on Thursday, reports UNB.The deceased are Dulal Hossain, 25, son of Sirajul Islam, Bakul, 36, son of Tafizul Islam and Towhid, 23, son of Yusuf, residents of Dyeingpara village. Officer-in-charge of Godagari police station Hipjur Alam Munshi said ten workers, including the three deceased, of ‘Tim Pharmaceuticals’ took some liquid chemical, used to produce medicine, to home on Wednesday night. They had the chemical mixing with beverage and subsequently fell sick several hours later. As their conditions deteriorated, the 10 workers were taken to RMCH on early Thursday when doctors declared Bakul and Towhid dead. Later, Dulal breathed his last around 2:30pm at the hospital, said OC Hipjur.
At least 30 people were killed when a gold mine collapsed in northeastern Afghanistan on Sunday, officials said, in the latest tragedy to strike the war-torn country.Another seven were injured in the incident in Kohistan district of Badakhshan province, district governor Mohammad Rustam Raghi told AFP.Villagers had dug a 60-metre (200-feet) deep shaft in a river bed to search for gold. They were inside when the walls fell in.It was not clear why the shaft collapsed, but the provincial governor’s spokesman Nik Mohammad Nazari told AFP the miners were not professionals.”The villagers have been involved in this business for decades with no government control over them,” Nazari said.”We have sent a rescue team to the area, but villagers have already started removing bodies from the site.”
