Agent wants Southampton and Norwich target Kalidou Koulibaly to remain at Napoli

first_img1 Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly The agent of Kalidou Koulibaly has urged Napoli to offer his client a new contract amid talk of renewed interest from Norwich and Southampton. The Premier League pair both held talks with the defender in the summer but he eventually elected to stay in Italy. Now, though, Norwich and Southampton are expected to return in January with a fresh approach for the Senegal international. And as a result the 24-year-old’s agent, Bruno Satin, has urged Napoli to offer his client a new contract to keep hold of him.“Koulibaly is still young,” Satin told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.“In the summer there was the possibility of leaving, but the lad chose to stay because he wanted to prove himself at Napoli, which he’s doing.“The future? There could be offers, but the Neapolitans are capable of giving him an important contract to tie the player down.”last_img read more

Louis van Gaal will toast Manchester United’s FA Cup win with a bottle of wine

first_imgLouis van Gaal said earlier in the week that FA Cup defeat at Derby could cost him his job – but a routine win over the Rams means the under-fire Manchester United boss will spend the weekend opening up a celebratory bottle of wine instead of packing away his desk. The 64-year-old admitted in the lead up to United’s fourth-round clash with the Championship promotion hopefuls that a loss to the Rams could spell the end of his Old Trafford tenure as supporters continue to grow weary of his perceived negative tactics. But he appears to have secured a stay of execution as goals from Wayne Rooney, Daley Blind and Juan Mata earned the Red Devils a fully-deserved 3-1 win over Derby – who had equalised in the first half through George Thorne. And the victory, which ensures 11-time winners United are the first name into the hat for the fifth-round draw, will now celebrate by opening an expensive bottle of wine with his wife – a gift from the Reds’ chief executive Ed Woodward after Van Gaal led United to a win over Liverpool earlier in the month.“I come back and my wife is at home because she was in the Netherlands, and the wine is already open,” he said.“We drink a nice bottle of wine, probably the most expensive wine, because I have received that from Ed Woodward.“Because I get always expensive wine when we beat an opponent of out the top six. I don’t want to mention the name (of the wine) because it is a little bit extravagant.”Despite the toasting of his side’s success, Van Gaal stopped short of heaping praise on his players, who had dominated for large swathes of their east midlands encounter. Anthony Martial enjoyed one of his best performances in recent weeks but even the France international was not immune to Van Gaal’s post-match analysis.“The first 20 minutes he was very bad,” he said of his summer signing from Monaco.“Maybe you have noticed that because everyone is saying how fantastic he played, (he should be) man of the match.“But you have to play 90 minutes good. I have said that already to him otherwise I could not say it to you. But after that first 20 minutes he was fantastic.”United scored three goals when in recent weeks they have largely been criticised for their lack of cutting edge in front of goal and the number of chances they have created. But Van Gaal insists there is no change in approach or philosophy and his players were simply allowed to play their game.“They didn’t have more freedom, they have always freedom from me,” he added when asked if his players were allowed to play with more freedom.“You want to write that but then don’t ask (a) rhetorical question. For you (it is) obvious (there is) more freedom? No. Same philosophy, same training session past three days. I give my players always freedom, building up attack is more freedom than defending.“Defending I have a game plan. I am not pleased with how you are twisting my words.”last_img read more

Explosion rocks apartment complex

first_imgAZUSA – An explosion rocked a residential building when residents in an apartment set off foggers to try to fumigate their unit, but no one was hurt, it was reported today. The accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. yesterday in a four-unit building at 618 Glenfinnan Ave., Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. David Middleton told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. The explosion is believed to have been triggered when chemicals from pesticide foggers were set off by a stove pilot light, Middleton said. No one in the building was injured, not even the two adults and five children in the unit where the blast originated, Middleton told the Tribune. The building was deemed uninhabitable until inspectors can determine the extent of structural damage. The displaced residents were staying with friends or family, the Tribune reported. Arsenal boss on Champions League exit: We produced a quality performance

first_img Arsene Wenger’s side were beaten 5-1 on aggregate by Barcelona 1 Arsene Wenger admitted his side had not made the most of their chances over two legs against Barcelona.Arsenal were knocked out of the Champions League by the Catalan giants in the last 16, with the Blaugrana winning 5-1 on aggregate. The Gunners boss told BT Sport: “In the two games, if you look at the dangerous situations we created we have done that many times.“I know it is difficult to take, to go out, but I believe that we produced a quality performance against maybe the best team in Europe at the moment. Well done to them and we wish them well.“I think the performance was first of all good but it was a great game between two good teams.”The Arsenal manager also felt that if his side had gone ahead in the match things could have turned out differently.“It was a turning point at 1-1, I believe I could feel they were wobbling a little bit, they were insecure,” he said.“Had we scored the second goal I think we could have created a sensation tonight, but we didn’t and any one of the (Barcelona) three up front can score an exceptional goal.”last_img read more

Gabriel reveals reason for Arsenal’s ‘excellent performance’ against Watford

first_img Gabriel playing for Arsenal against Watford Gabriel has revealed Arsenal were ‘much more focused’ than they have been recently in their resounding victory over Watford. The Gunners secured a 4-0 win against the Hornets, easing to three vital points as they remain in the hunt for the Premier League title. It was a return to form for Arsene Wenger’s side, who have been struggling in the recent months. The North London club had won just three of their previous 10 games heading into the clash with the Hornets, and had been on the end of a 2-1 defeat against the same opponents in the FA Cup in March. However, Arsenal were back to their best, attacking with pace and creative flair, and Brazilian centre-back Gabriel has revealed the reason for this excellent performance.“It’s not every game that we’ll have an excellent performance like today,” he said.“We were just much more focused against Watford and that’s why things went much better and we recorded a positive result.”The three points closed the gap on second placed Spurs to four points, with Arsenal still having a game in hand, and Gabriel insists the Gunners have their confidence back heading into the final stage of the season. The 25-year-old added: “We’ve regained our confidence once again.“Not so long ago we lacked a little in confidence and we weren’t going into the match fully focused, so with a victory, we come back with a better self-esteem.” 1last_img read more

‘I don’t want ANY West Ham players to play for England’, says David Sullivan

first_imgWest Ham co-owner David Sullivan has told talkSPORT he doesn’t want ANY West Ham players to play for England. The likes of Mark Noble, Andy Carroll and Aaron Cresswell have all been linked with call-ups to Roy Hodgson’s squad in recent months, though none are likely to be included in the Euro 2016 squad.Hammers fans were angered that Noble, in particular, was overlooked for recent friendless against Germany and Holland, but Sullivan was relieved his stars remained at home. The Upton Park chief is still sour after former striker Dean Ashton was forced to retire from a serious ankle injury he picked up during a Three Lions training session back in 2009.It was a huge blow for West Ham at the time, and Sullivan does not want another similar incident to jeopardise the team as they continue their impressive rise and begin a new era at the Olympic Stadium.“For me, and this is a horrible thing to say, I don’t want any of our players to play for England,” Sullivan told the Sports Bar.“I saw what happened to Dean Ashton, where we lost a vital player [to an injury he suffered on international duty] and we never got a penny off the FA for that.”Asked if he feels the same about the club’s other international players, such as French playmaker Dimitri Payet and Italian defender Angelo Ogbonna he added: “I’m just saying that for me as a club owner, when they go away they play extra games, they risk injury and it does nothing for me.“If you want to sell them it probably increases their value, but we have desire to sell any of our players.“I’m just saying, with my West Ham hat on, that I wish we had no internationals and I wish the players would have a nice long break.“Often, players who take part in those big tournaments then struggle in the next season because they don’t get a long enough break in the summer.“But that’s not to say we will not still look to buy international players. Of course we will.”He added jokingly: “I’ve tried to bribe them to retire [from international duty], but they won’t retire!”Listen to the full interview with David Sullivan IN FULL above!last_img read more
